Registration: (see ORDER.FRM file)
The registered version:
- Doesn't ask you for a Passcode.
- Doesn't print "DiskMate" on Reports.
- Doesn't print "DiskMate" on Labels.
If you're a CompuServe subscriber, you don't have to wait for the
mail! When your payment is received we'll Email you a passcode
which will upgrade the performance of your version of DiskMate
automatically!
Note: If you read in floppy disks to the databases using the
unregistered version and later register, you won't have
to read the same floppys in again.

System Requirements
=================================================================
DiskMate will run on the IBM family of personal computers and
compatible computers (286 or better) meeting the following
minimum requirements.
MINIMUM requirements are:
■ PC-DOS OR MS-DOS 3.3 or greater.
■ One floppy diskette drive.
■ Hard disk drive with minimum of 800K free space.
■ Either a color or a monochrome monitor with 80-column
display.
What does DiskMate do?
=================================================================
First, what DiskMate DOESN'T DO. DiskMate doesn't do ANYTHING to
your floppy disks except READ them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
DiskMate simply enables you to keep track of and locate floppy
disk files and to produce labels for them.
Capacity - Up to 999 Boxes with up to 999 disks per box!
1. Print 5-1/4" and 3-1/2" disk jacket labels, and mailing label
sized labels for your floppy disks.
This isn't the adhesive kind of label but rather a label
printed on plain paper. Labels can be printed with borders so
you can cut them out and insert them into the disk sleeve
along with the disk. Labels include:
Box and Disk Number (that you assign)
File Names (and file names in PKZIP files)
Date Cataloged
Amount of Free Space left
Number of Files
Subdirectories and Number of Subdirectories
IMPORTANT! You're printer (dot matrix) must be capable of
printing in compressed print (17 cpi) and 8 lines per
inch to print labels to proper dimensions.
* Label can also be sent to a disk file where you can
manipulate it as necessary.
Page 5
2. Store all of your floppy disk file names, file sizes, disk
name, and descriptions to a database.
You assign Box Numbers, Disk Numbers, Disk Name, and
Descriptions. DiskMate takes care of the rest.
3. Stores the contents of PKZIP files to the database. Does not
process PKZIP files inside of a PKZIP file. File name must
have a ".ZIP" extension (in other words won't process a file
called ABC.EXE even if is is a self-unpacking ZIP file).
4. Search the Database (including contents of PKZIP files too!)
Simple Searches or Powerful Compound Searches:
By File Name, Description, Category, File Size,
File Name Extension
5. View and/or Print Reports (no special printer requirements)
By Box Numbers and Disk Numbers
By File Names (all or ranges)
By Categories
6. Maintain the databases
Delete Files, Disks, or Boxes from the database
Move disks from one box to another
Switch box numbers
Edit Disk Name and/or Disk Description
Edit File Descriptions
7. Export information which can be imported into Lotus 1-2-3.
Installation
=================================================================
DiskMate is simple to install but first, be sure to make a backup
or backup copy of the DMATE.EXE file.
Also make sure your CONFIG.SYS file has enough file handles and
buffers.
FILES=31 (or higher, 31 is a minimum)
BUFFERS=10 (or higher)
Simply copy DMATE.EXE to the directory where you would like to
use it. Type "DMATE" (without the quotes) to unpack.
Note: If you have received DiskMate from another source, you may
have to follow other instructions. Always check the READ.ME file
first for any last-minute changes or notices.
Page 6
Using DiskMate
=================================================================
To run DiskMate, type "DM" (without the quotes) and press
[Enter]".
The FIRST TIME you run DiskMate, you will see screen messages
telling you that databases and indexes are being created.
DiskMate checks to make sure that all necessary files are present
before proceeding and creates them if they are not. If you are
experimenting with DiskMate and would like to start all over
again with empty databases, simply delete all files with an
extension of ".DBF" (see Note below), and ".NTX" files in your
DiskMate subdirectory and they will be recreated (empty of
course).
Note: IMPORTANT!!!! Do not delete the file "SYS.DBF". This
file retains various settings (printer margins, printer type,
etc.) that you may have changed while using DiskMate. This
database will also be recreated if you should delete it, however,
any settings that you have specified will have to be done again.
DiskMate uses Menus, screen prompting, and help screens so you
can run it without documentation.
HELP! Help screens are available in many areas of DiskMate.
Press the F1 Function Key for help.
The [Escape] Key. The Escape key will allow you to BACK UP or
BACK OUT of most areas of the program. In some of the critical
areas (deleting for example) you will have more than one chance
to back out of the action.
* Pressing the Escape key at the Main Menu is the only way to
exit DiskMate! If you reboot or turn your computer off without
exiting DiskMate through the Main Menu, chances of your
databases being corrupted is excellent!
"Yes No" boxes. DiskMate will ask you to make various
decisions during it's operation in the form of responding to a
"Yes" or "No" question. These "Yes" or "No" questions will pop
up in a box with either the "Yes" or the "No" highlighted. If
you want the highlighted option, you can press the [Enter] key.
You can also press [Y] for Yes or [N] for No. You can also use
the [Left Arrow] and [Right Arrow] keys to highlight your choice
and then press [Enter] to confirm your choice.
If you are running the unregistered version, you will see an
opening screen asking you for a Passcode. If you have registered
DiskMate, you will have received a passcode to enter here. Once
the proper passcode is entered, you won't be asked for the
passcode again. Entering the wrong passcode will have the same
effect as pressing the [Enter] key. Upon entering the correct
passcode, you will be asked for your name and company name.

your display could be very difficult to read. To remedy
this, press [Alt-M] (hold down the [Alt] key then press
the [M] key). This will take care of the problem and you
will not have to do this again. If you later change to a
color monitor, press [Alt-M] again and DiskMate will
display in color.
Selecting Menu Items.
Press [Esc] to Quit DiskMate
Press F1 for Help
You may do this by moving the highlighted bar with the Up or
Down Arrow Keys to the desired item and pressing [Enter]. You
can also press the number (1 thru 8) of the desired item.
Note: It would be useless to select options 3 through 8 until
you've read a floppy disk into the database.
Page 8
Option 1 - Print Disk Label
Choosing Menu Option 1 from the Main Menu will move to this
submenu:
┌─────────────────────────────────┐

│3. [Esc] Exit to Menu │
└─────────────────────────────────┘
Make your selection by pressing 1, 2, or 3 or by highlighting
your choice by using the arrow keys and then pressing [Enter].
DiskMate provides you with the flexibility to:
- Read a number floppy disks into the database without
printing labels.
- Print a number of labels without reading floppy disks into
the database.
- or... Read floppy disks into the database AND print labels
in one operation.
Option 1 - Print Label from Floppy Disk
Choosing Option 1 will change the screen to appear similar to
this:
┌────────────────────────┐┌──────────────┐┌──────────────────┐

Page 9
The 3 boxes at the top of the screen offer some information in
regards to past activity and QuickMode status.
The left-hand box indicates the highest box number read into the
database and the highest disk number in that box.
The center box indicates the last box number and last disk number
you used.
The right-hand box indicates the status of QuickMode. Pressing
the F2 function key will toggle this action.
You will be able to view and/or print a label from a floppy disk
and have the option of adding the floppy disk information to the
database. DiskMate will prompt you to insert disks and ask you
for box and disk numbers, etc..
When you are asked for a Box Number and a Disk Number...
These are the box and disk numbers that will be printed at the
top of the label. If you use 0 (zero) for Box or Disk Numbers,
the '0' will not be printed (you can pen them in?). Also, if you
use 0 for the Box and Disk Number, you won't be able to add the
floppy files to the database since 0 is not a valid Box Number.
The function key assignments will be shown at the bottom of the
screen.
- F2 will turn QuickMode On or Off.
If you DO NOT want to be asked if you want to read floppy to
the databases after printing a label, turn QuickMode ON.
- F3 will enable you to change the default 'floppy' disk drive
from A: to Z: (which will remain the default drive until you
change it again, even the next time you run DiskMate.
*****************************************************************
* Drive Adjustment Feature - Certain personal computers use a
different method of accessing floppy drives throuh DOS. If
you should find that DiskMate is trying to access a different
drive than you have selected (B: instead of A:), press the
CTRL-D (down) or CTRL-U (up) keys and DiskMate will compensate
for this condition. Any adjustment will be shown in the upper,
right-hand corner of your screen (under QuickMode status).
*****************************************************************
- F4 will give you a snapshot of the files in the MAIN
DIRECTORY of the floppy disk. The purpose of this function
is to assist you in deciding on a Disk Name, Description,
Category, etc.. You could always use the F9 function to
shell out to DOS and do a 'DIR' from there, but using the F4
function is much easier. Pressing F4 with a floppy in the
appropriate drive will present you with a screen like this:
Page 10

╚═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
The cursor keys will allow you to scroll through Main Directory
of the floppy disk. Again, the purpose of this function is to
give you a peek at the files to possibly help you decide on a
Disk Name, Description, Category, etc..
- F9 will shell to DOS where you can perform various DOS
functions (copy, delete, dir, etc..).
You must have a copy of your DOS'S COMMAND.COM file in
the DiskMate directory or a DOS path set so DiskMate can
find it. This is normally taken care of during boot time
so you shouldn't have to worry about this.
Page 11
Option 2 - Print Label from Database File
DiskMate will print a label for floppy disks you've already read
into the database. Just follow the screen prompts when asked for
the box number and disk number.
Once you've made your choice and DiskMate has the necessary
information (from the floppy or the database), you will see a
screen like this displaying details about your selection and a
chance to continue or select a different disk:
╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

Yes No?
Pressing the [Y] key signifies that the selection is correct and
you are ready to print the label. DiskMate will then gather and
sort the necessary records.
╔═════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ Assembling & Sorting Information. Please Wait... ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Once the proper records are obtained for the label, you will see
this screen:

└───────────────┘
If you choose Option 3 (File), DiskMate will ask you for a file
name (up to 8 characters). The extension ".TXT" will
automatically be appended to the file name that you enter.
Page 12
If you enter a file name that has already been used, DiskMate
will prompt you for an action with this screen:

After you've printed the label, you can print it again. In other
words, if you print the label to the screen, you can print the
same label to the printer and also print it to a disk file.
If you choose to send the label to the printer you will be
presented with this screen:

Set-Up
The top box (Set-Up) displays the current configuration for
sending labels to the printer. These features can be changed by
selecting Option 4 (Change Set-Up) and are defined as follows:
Page 13
Graphic Characters
If your printer is not capable or printing graphic characters
(┌ ┐ ├─), you can toggle this feature Off [F3] and DiskMate
will use non-graphic characters (+ | and -)
for label borders.
Border
You can toggle this feature On or Off [F4] to tell DiskMate
whether or not to print a border around disk labels (to help
cut out the label). If you have Border toggled off, it
doesn't matter if Graphic Characters are On of Off since no
border will be printed.
Top Margin - Set the top margin.
Left Margin
Set the left margin of your choice. If you set this number
too high, you may get undesirable results.
Send Printer Codes (not necessary for Laser printers)
DiskMate can send the necessary printer codes, that you
provide, for your printer to print at 8 lines per inch and in
compressed (17 cpi) print. Refer to your printer
documentation for the correct codes which must be entered in
decimal form.
Choosing Option 4 (Change Set-Up) will display a set of Function
Key assignments used to change set-up settings.
Press the appropriate Function Key to perform the action you
desire. Changes that you make will be reflected in the Set-Up
box at the top of the screen and remain in effect until you
change them again.
When the Set-Up is to your liking, press [Esc].
Option 1 - Will print a label for 3-1/2" disks.
Option 2 - Will print a label for 5-1/4" disks.
Option 3 - Will print a mailing sized label.
Option 4 - Discussed above.
Option 5 - Will send a form feed to your printer.
[Escape] - will take you back to the previous menu.

Main Menu, Option 2 - Read Disk to Database
Follow screen prompts (very similar to Option 1).
*** CTRL-Q feature ***
This key combination will save you several keystrokes and enable
you to read a number of disks (with the same box number) more
quickly. It would be most useful if you are going to read a box
full of floppies that have the same File Category, Disk Name,
etc.. YOU MUST PRESS THE [SpaceBar] FOR THE FIRST FLOPPY IN THE
SERIES! By doing so, you'll be able to enter the necessary
information for the floppy. After the 1st floppy is read, you
can press CTRL-Q for floppies that follow. By pressing CTRL-Q,
ALL INFORMATION (Disk Name, File Category, etc.) WILL REMAIN THE
SAME except for the DISK NUMBER which will increase by 1 for each
successive floppy read. You will have a chance to back out
before the floppy is actually read. You can alternate between
pressing the [SpaceBar] and CTRL-Q at any time.
REMEMBER! Press the [SpaceBar] for the first floppy you read or
all fields will be blank except for the Box Number which will
default to the last box number used and the Disk Number which
will be 1 higher than the disk in the last boxnumber used.
* Note: If you have made changes to a floppy disk already in the
database, you can 'reread' the floppy disk to the
database to reflect those changes. Simply use the SAME
Box Number and Disk Number when DiskMate asks for them.
DiskMate will check the database and tell you that the
box and disk numbers have already been used and give you
the option of reusing them for this disk. Rereading a
floppy disk will create deleted records in the databases
(see the discussion in Deleteing Files, Disk, and Boxes
below).
You can change the floppy drive from A: to Z: by pressing the
F3 Key.
Press the F4 key to see a snapshot of the files on the floppy
disk (see Main Menu - Option 1).
Press the F9 key to exit to the DOS Shell and the F2 key to
toggle QuickMode on and off.
* QuickMode
If you DO NOT want to be asked if you want to print a label
after reading a floppy to the databases, turn QuickMode ON.

ending names. Partial names are okay. If you enter 'A' for the
beginning file name, the very first file beginning with the
letter 'A' will be used. If you enter 'AR' the first file
beginning with 'AR' will be used, etc..
If you just want to see the file names beginning with 'A', enter
'A' for the beginning file name and 'B' for the ending file name.
If you want to see file names beginning with 'A' and ending with
'CURSOR.COM' enter 'A' for the beginning file name and
'CURSOR.COM' for the ending file name. You'll have a choice of
viewing on the screen or sending to the printer.

What this means:
Let's say that you entered "$" for the operator and "ACCE" in the
field for File Name and ">" for the operator and "1000" in the
field for File Size.
Answering 'Yes' means to find records that match BOTH conditions;
"ACCE" in the File Name AND File Sizes greater than 1000.
Answering 'No' means to find records that match EITHER condition;
'ACCE' in the File Name OR File Sizes greater than 1000.
Page 18
DiskMate will then try to locate the first record meeting your
specification(s). If one is found, it will then gather and sort
any further records matching your specification(s). Once records
are gathered and sorted, they will be presented to you in a

Records are sorted alphabetically by File Name. You can scroll
through records by using the UpArrow, DownArrow, Home, End, PgUp,
and PgDn keys.
Notice the 'Autoseek' box at the extreme left of the scroll box.
This means that you can begin typing File Name characters which
DiskMate will attempt to match. For example, the scroll box
above ends with the File Name "ATSIZE.COM", however, you are
interested in seeing File Names beginning with "BASIC". Simply
press the [B] key and DiskMate will scroll to the first file
beginning with the letter "B" (if there is one). If there are no
files beginning with the letter "B", DiskMate will gently beep at
you to let you know. For the sake of discussion, let's say there
files beginning with "B". Now press the [A] key and DiskMate
will scroll to the first file beginning with "BA". The letters
you have typed in will be highlighted in a different color so you
can see what you've entered. You can [BackSpace] to remove
letters and DiskMate will respond accordingly. Pressing any of
the cursor movement keys (UpArrow, Home, etc.) will cancel the
Autoseek and move around in the scrollbox accordingly.

└─────────────────────┘
Delete Option 2 (Delete Disk) & Delete Option 3 (Delete Box) are
pretty straight-forward and screen prompted.
First a short but important discussion about deleting...
Deleting files, disks, or boxes doesn't physically remove them
from the database. They are only 'marked' as deleted and won't
show up in Searches or Reports. DiskMate, however, will keep
track of any deletions and give you a chance to 'Pack' the
databases before you exit DiskMate. Packing the databases
permanently removes any deleted records and frees up the disk
space they occupied. This process can take some time depending
on the size of your databases and the speed of your equipment.
DiskMate will pop up a box similar to this one if you have
deleted records and press [Esc] to Exit the program.

╚═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
Page 20
It's your choice. If it's not convenient to wait for the packing
process now, just press the [N] key and DiskMate will exit
normally. DiskMate will 'remember' that records have been
deleted and you will see this box again the next time you run
DiskMate even if you haven't deleted any new records. If you
press the [Y] key, of course, DiskMate will initiate the packing
process and then exit normally.
Delete Option 1 - Delete File
* Note: DiskMate can also delete the file from your floppy!
It's an Option to you.
Deleting a file can be more involved. After reading in a few
boxes of floppys, you're likely to see the same file name on
several disks. MIO.SYS and COMMAND.COM are a couple of good
examples (not that you would want to delete them).
Let's just say that you were using the Search feature and noticed
a file called ABC.BAK that you don't need any more. You decide
to delete it from the database (and possibly from the floppy).
When asked for the file name, you have a choice. You can type in
the file name (or partial name) OR you can press [Enter] for a
pick list.
Pressing [Enter]:
Pressing [Enter] will pop up a pick-list, like this, from which
you can choose a file name with its' corresponding location.

Typing in a file name:
Example: When prompted for the file name, you enter 'ABC.BAK.
Just because you saw one ABC.BAK file doesn't mean that there
aren't more. DiskMate will check the database and if it finds
more than one entry, will show you a box like this:

Use Arrow keys to highlight the correct one and press [Enter]
As you can see, in this example, the same file resides on many
floppys in several different boxes and on several disks. Use
the Up & Down Arrow keys to highlight the file of your choice
and press [Enter]. DiskMate will show you more detailed
information about the file (size, directory) and THEN ask you
if you want to delete it.
If you answer 'Y', DiskMate will ask you if you want to delete
the same file from the floppy.
If you answer 'N', DiskMate will delete the file from the
database. You'll have to delete the file from the floppy on
your own.
If you answer 'Y', DiskMate will tell you which floppy to
insert and ask you to specify a floppy drive. The file will be
deleted from the database AND the floppy.
DiskMate will then advise you of it's actions and return you to
the top level allowing you to delete other files, boxes, or
disks, or to Escape back to the Main Menu.

└─────────────────────┘
* Moving files, disks, or boxes will result in DELETED records in
your databases. Please read the discussion on Deleting Files,
Disks, and Boxes above.
Move Option 1 - Move File
If you've moved a file from one floppy to another, you'll be able
to reflect the change in the databases without reading the floppy
into the database again. If you've made several changes,
however, it might be easier to reread the floppy to the database.
When you are asked to enter a file name, you can enter the file
name or press [Enter] to get a pick-list from which to choose.
Pressing [Enter] will pop up a pick-list, like this, from which
you can choose a file name with its' corresponding location.

If you enter the file name and it exists on more than one disk,
you'll be presented with a list from which to choose from.
You'll then be asked to indicate the box number and disk number
to move the file to.
Page 23
Move Option 2 - Move Disk
This option will move a entire disk from one box to another.
Example: You want to move Disk Number 5 from Box 2 to Box 7.
If Box 7 already has a Disk Number 5 in it,
DiskMate, as a safety precaution, won't allow the
move. The Disk Number in the target box must be
available (not used).
Move Option 3 - Move Box
Example: You want Box Number 3 to become Box Number 5.
In order to accomplish this, Box Number 5 MUST BE OPEN (not
used).
- You can DELETE Box Number 5 (Delete Menu) first and then
change Box 3 to Box 5. Then you can read the old Box 5
back into the databases with a new box number.
- You can use the 'Switch 2 Boxes' option.
Move Option 4 - Switch 2 Boxes
This option SWAPS all the database information for two boxes.
You'll be asked for the two box numbers and DiskMate will do
the work.
Main Menu Option 7 - View/Edit/Delete
Selecting this option will present you with a scrolling list of
all database records and give you a number of useful and powerful
functions. It will look something like this:

function keys perform the same function regardless of which set
is active.
For the purpose of describing these functions, the first set will

#F2 - Erase File
This function has the same results as choosing Delete File' from
the Delete File/Disk/Box Option from the Main Menu, however it's
much easier and faster here. You will have a chance to back out
and the 'option' of deleting the file from your floppy disk.
Page 26
@F3 - Print
This feature provides you with a 'quick and dirty report'
printing utility and works best when you have set a Filter
(described below). You will have the opportunity to escape once
the report has started. The primary intent of this feature is to
produce a hard copy of a set of isolated records. For example,
you might want to take a look at some Zipped files on your
floppys. You can set a filter to isolate those files and then
print a hard copy to use in finding their location after you've
exited DiskMate.
Important! If you do not set a Filter before using this
function, ALL records will be printed! Although you
can abort the report, this wouldn't be a practical
use of this feature.
#F3 - Edit N/C/D
Pressing the #F3 Function Key allows you to enter or edit the
Category, Disk Name or Disk Description of the currently
highlighted record. The edit keys (above) are also active here.
@F4 - Set Filter
This is a very powerful feature of DiskMate, however, it can be
VERY S-L-O-W at times. It allows you to view only the records
that match the criteria that you set. For basic needs, consider
using the Search option or the Report option from the Main Menu.
DiskMate will allow you to set simple and complex filter
conditions. A simple condition might be to show only records of
files that are larger than 15,000. A more complex condition
would be to show only records than contain 'basic' in the File
Name, have File Sizes between 1000 and 5000, and contain
'program' in the File Description. The more complex the the
condition, the slower the action.
Page 27
Pressing [@F4] will change your screen to look similar to this
one:
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐

A small box will appear near the File Name Field waiting for you
to enter an operator (contained in the accompanying Help Box).
If you choose not to use this field for a condition, press the
Down Arrow or the [Enter] key to skip to the next field. If you
enter an operator (and press [Enter]), the cursor will be placed
into the field below awaiting your input and the Help Box will
disappear.
You need to be VERY CAREFUL as to the conditions you set as our
friendly computers are sometimes not so friendly and always
unforgiving in many respects. For example if you enter "=" (the
equal sign) in the File Name operator box and "Bas" in the field,
DiskMate (actually your computer) probably won't find any
records! If you had a file (or files) named BAS (no extension
either) filtering would be successful, however you wouldn't see
any records with a File Name of BASIC, BASICA, etc. Reason: the
equal sign is precise! It mean equal to, not almost equal to or
close to. If you wanted to see records with file names that
contained (key word 'contained') BAS in them, you would use the $
operator and all records with BAS in the file name would be
filtered. Once you have set the conditions you want, press
[CTRL-W] to begin the filtering process.
ONCE A FILTER CONDITION IS INITIATED, YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL
THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE (no escape). THE COMPUTER WILL TRY EVEN
IF THE CONDITIONS ARE ABSURD AND CAN TAKE QUITE SOME TIME.
Before you become involved with filtering, examine functions @F8,
@F9, and @F10 which may produce the results you want and are
extremely fast.
Using the [@F3] Print feature with a filter set will now print
only the records which are filtered.

└────────────────────────────────┘
Option 1 - Reindex Databases
Index files are necessary for DiskMate to perform certain
searches and to display information in a particular order
(alphabetical, by box number, etc.). This allows you, for
example, to read floppy disk number 5 in box number 8 before
reading floppy disk number 7 in box number 2 and still print
reports in correct box/disk order. If, for some reason, any
of the necessary index files become corrupted or information
doesn't seem to be presented correctly, you can use this
option to recreate the index files to coincide with the
database information.
Option 2 - Fix Box/Disk/Record Counts
This option will look through the databases and calculate
correct box, disk, and record counts which are displayed at
the Main Menu. This option is simply a way to fix these
counts should they become corrupted.
Page 33
Option 3 - Box/Disk Tree
This option doesn't perform any calculations or change any
data. It simply gives you a look at the data you logged in
like this:
Box Disk
=====================
1 1
2
3
2 1
3
4
etc....
Option 4 - Lotus Download
This option will take information from the DiskMate databases
and send it to two disk files which you can import into a
Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet. The filenames are "DISKMAIN.PRN" and
"DISKFILE.PRN". DISKMAIN.PRN will contain Box and Disk
Numbers, Disk Name, Category, Number of Files per Disk, Free
Space, etc.. DISKFILE.PRG will contain File Names, Sizes, and
Descriptions.
Option 5 - Other Utilities
This option will provides 3 more utilities.
1. Replace File Descriptions
This option will allow you to change the File Description
for a given Box and Disk number. The File Description you
provide will replace the File Description for all of the
files pertaining to the Disk number you designate.
2. Replace File Categories
Like option 1 above will replace the File Category with
the Category you choose for all of the files pertaining to
the Disk number you designate.
3. Add/Edit/Delete Categories
You can ADD a Category to the Category database or you can
Edit or Delete an existing Category.
IMPORTANT! If you Edit or Delete a Category in the
Category database, the same change will be applied to all
associated files. If, for example, you had read in a
floppy disk assigned as Box 1 and Disk 1 and chose
'Miscellaneous' for a Category', the Category field for
all files on the floppy would be 'Miscellaneous'. If,
however, you decide to delete 'Miscellaneous' from the
Category database, the Category field for all of the files
pertaining to Disk 1 in Box 1 will be changed to blanks
(no category). If you were to Edit 'Miscellaneous' to
'MISC', the Category field for all files pertaining to
Disk 1 in Box 1 will be changed to 'MISC'.
Errors
Every effort has been made to prevent errors, program crashing
and bugs. Most errors will be trapped by an internal error
handler. Instead of crashing (we hope), the error handler
will create a small text file called ERROR.TXT describing the
error. After this file is written to disk, you will be
returned to the Main Menu. If you should experience a
problem, please let us know and we'll take care of it
immediately. Be sure to all details surrounding the problem
and include the information in the ERROR.TXT file (if
available) so we can try to duplicate it.
